The Chicago Holiday Event Hot List
December is a great time to visit the windy city since there are tons of fun events to attend- some holiday themed and some not. Here’s our roundup of the not-to-be-missed Chicago area events this month.
- Christmas market: Dec. 1 – 24, 2014 (begins Nov. 21)
Christkindlmarket is an open-air European holiday market on Daley Plaza featuring traditional art, handmade gifts, German foods, choirs, carolers, and an opening ceremony. The best part – it’s FREE.
- Holiday lights on a Segway: December 1 – 31, 2014
Bundle up to see holiday lights and attractions riding a Segway on a guided tour downtown for $65.

Dec. 4 to 23 – Absolutely Chicago Segway Tours
- Holiday trains – Lincoln Park: December 1 – 31, 2014 (Nov. 28 – Jan. 4)
Model trains wind their way through a miniature village among Poinsettias during the Winter Flower & Train Show at Lincoln Park Conservatory. This event is free.
- Winter WonderFest: December 5, 2014 – Jan. 11, 2015
Festival Hall at Navy Pier becomes an indoor Winter WonderFest for the holidays, with music, carnival rides, and entertainment. Expect crowds. Free entry.
- Mary Poppins live: December 3 – 31, 2014 (Nov. 26 – Jan. 4)
Hear those catchy songs and see Mary fly in Mary Poppins at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora.
- Christmas lights – Brookfield Zoo: December 6 – 31, 2014 (dates below)
Holiday Magic is a million twinkling lights, a laser light show, a magic show, animal visits, and songs at the Brookfield Zoo. December 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31. Discount tickets are available online.
